The tricity’s Gen Z in numbers
Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula together hold roughly 150 colleges and institutes and somewhere above 200,000 students, with Panjab University’s campus and affiliated colleges at the centre and two very large private universities, Chandigarh University at Gharuan and Chitkara at Rajpura, bussing in tens of thousands more each morning. Add PGIMER, IISER, ISB and NIPER in Mohali and the city punches well above its population of a little over a million.
Chandigarh Gen Z is a Punjab, Haryana and Himachal audience. Most students here come from Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Ambala, Shimla and the towns in between, which means a tricity campaign reaches three states’ worth of households through one city.
Where the tricity’s 18 to 26 year olds are
Panjab University’s Sector 14 campus and the Sector 15 and 11 markets around it are the daily centre: Student Centre, the PU market cafes and the DAV, SD, MCM and Government College belt in Sectors 10, 11, 32 and 36. PEC is at Sector 12. Sector 17 Plaza and Elante are the malls; Sector 35 and Sector 26 are the pubs and cafes; Sukhna Lake is the morning and the evening. Mohali’s Phase 3B2 and Phase 7 serve the IT City first-jobbers and the ISB and IISER crowd, while Panchkula Sector 5 is the Haryana side of the weekend.
Punjabi is the language of youth culture here in a way no other Indian city matches: the music industry that dominates India’s charts is produced in Mohali studios, and the strongest tricity creators work in Punjabi and Hinglish, not English. Fitness, bikes and cycling are bigger here per head than anywhere else we work.
What we run across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula
- Campus activations at Panjab University, PEC, DAV, SD, MCM DAV, GCG, Chandigarh University and Chitkara. See campus marketing.
- Fest partnerships at PECFEST, Goonj, the PU Zonal Youth Festival and the CU and Chitkara fests.
- Punjabi creators for music, fitness, food and automotive content, shot at Sukhna, Sector 17 and the Mohali studios. See influencer marketing and creator and UGC.
- Sampling at PU hostels, the Sector 15 market, Elante and the CU and Chitkara bus stands, where tens of thousands of students pass each day. See sampling and activations.
- Communities around PU departments, Mohali IT offices and cycling and running groups. See community marketing.
Tricity timing is straightforward: Panjab University reopens in July, the youth festival rounds run in October and November, PECFEST and Goonj sit in February and March, and the city is quietest in June. Winter is the best sampling season, when Sukhna and Sector 17 are busiest.
Why brands pick us in the tricity
Chandigarh is four hours from our Delhi office and we run it with a resident lead who knows which PU departments say yes and which Mohali universities route everything through a corporate relations office. The team behind GenZ Marketing has run tricity campus programmes for KTM, Pulsar, Unstop and StudyIn, and the two-wheeler work in particular was built around Chandigarh’s riding culture.
The tricity is usually the fourth North India city after Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, and it links naturally to Dehradun for a hill-state rollout. If you are choosing a Gen Z marketing agency for Punjab, Haryana and Himachal, start with our Gen Z marketing guide and brief us for the tricity.
